If you remember from my post about my new driveway I mentioned that we now have to replace the sidewalk. I was okay with it, though, because the pavers were not level so it was a pain to shovel in the winter. Also, dirt had collected in the middle where the pavers were mashed in and I would always slip on it when it was wet. Always.
Also, we couldn’t have a ratty ol’ sidewalk sitting next to our gorgeous new driveway (which I love more and more every day).
He pulled up all of the old pavers, as seen here in the back of the yard all stacked up. These were the concrete pavers that were used for the landing off of the steps.
Then he coordinated with a friend (who has a truck) and they got the new pavers for the sidewalk. Due to the fact that it’s a rather long sidewalk we decided that we would reuse the old pavers that were still in good shape. After all, we didn’t want this project to cost us an arm and a leg.
Jay got the base all situated and then figured out his lines for the edges. There were some things that he had to figure into the equation, and put a slight slope on it so that it would drain away from the driveway (and house!).
Are you ready to see what it looks like?
Keep in mind that when I took these pictures it had rained on and off all day so the older pavers were darker.
We used 16″ pavers, but didn’t have enough room right next to the steps. Jay and I tossed some ideas back and forth, and then we ended up with this. I like it. A lot. I don’t think that there is anybody else who has a sidewalk like this.
Even with those missing I really like how it turned out.
Didn’t Jay do a wonderful job??
